DFW Noise Compliance

DFW airport has an FAA mandate to monitor the noise from incoming and outgoing flights. There are thirty-five noise monitors along DFW flight paths reporting to the noise compliance department. If noise exceeds an acceptable threshold they can correlate the timing and location of detection with the flight log database to determine whether the offending flight was operating under emergency conditions or whether the airline should receive a warning.

For our neighborhood the closest monitor is co-located with the FAA beacon just south of Spinks. You have probably noticed the tower with the flashing lights visible just across the street. This beacon emits a radio signal to guide the planes on both takeoff and landing. The beacons are permanent and have been in place for the 30 years the airport has been open.

This explains why the planes fly directly over our neighborhood.

If you believe that a flight is unduly loud, report the incident to the noise compliance department for investigation. They’ll need the date, time and address to determine which flight you heard, then your name and phone number to call you back.

Looking for HOA Activity Volunteers

Well, we made it through the Easter Egg Hunt, but the remainder of the usual annual events normally planned and supported by dedicated activity committee volunteers are in jeopardy.

Perhaps the community wide activities (pre-trick or treat Halloween party, block party, etc.) are no longer of sufficient interest to attract the volunteers needed to make them happen.

Please let us know what you think, one way or the other, via email to manager@srshoa.org or via mail to the address listed above.

New Electrical Substation, Middle School

The new electrical substation located 300 feet south of Spinks on the east side of Donald street was approved by both the planning and zoning commission and the town council as of May. Construction is already underway.

Substation access will be restricted to Lakeside

Pkwy and is expected to be limited to a single monthly routine inspection.

ONCOR submitted plans to the town that include an 8 foot masonry wall around the substation surrounded in turn by a hedge, then a mixture of Live Oaks, Red Buds and other trees/shrubs.

LISD has broken ground on the new middle school co-located with Bluebonnet elementary. This middle school is the largest in LISD and will have a full scale stadium.

For more information on either of these projects consult the Community Info Menu on www.srshoa.org.

Dogs, Break-ins and Brick Wall maintenance

In April a neighborhood dog attacked and bit a nanny pushing her children in their stroller. The bite was serious enough for a visit to the emergency room, and the dog had crossed the street to bite her.

Pets and liability for their behavior are the responsibility of the owner.

Dogs should be on-leash if not in your home or enclosed backyard. If tethered in your front yard, the tether must be short enough to prevent your dog from biting pedestrians using your sidewalk.

Clean up any messes your dog makes - this is common sense and common courtesy.

There have been car break-ins in our neighborhood and theft of items from front door steps. Our town reports most home break-ins are through open garages. Protect your home and family - keep your garage closed when not in use.

Our brick wall along Spinks will be repaired this summer.
