Flower Mound Police Catch Car Burglar

(From FM Police E-Mail To HOAs On February 5, 2009)

Late Wednesday night the Flower Mound Police arrested a male suspect in a recent string of opportunistic car burglaries.  Between Sunday, February 1st and Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 the Flower Mound Police Department took 26 burglary of vehicle reports in an area south of FM 1171 and east of FM 2499.  In the vast majority of these offenses victim’s cars were unlocked when the suspect entered and took property.

Around 5:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning a Flower Mound Officer located a suspicious car driving through the neighborhoods.  Further investigation resulted in impoundment of the vehicle and recovery of stolen property.  The recovered property is in the process of being returned to the rightful owners at this time, including property that was recovered from offenses that occurred in Lewisville.  Police later identified a male suspect who was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the string of burglaries and possession of marijuana.

The Flower Mound Police would like to continue to stress the importance of properly securing vehicles to avoid becoming a target of burglars.  Tips that will help you avoid becoming a victim include parking vehicles in the garage whenever possible.  If you must park your car outside, park in the driveway as opposed to the street.  Do not leave anything in the car of value, not even loose change.  Burglars look for duffle bags, brief cases, purses and other similar containers that may have items of value in them.  Even if these containers are empty, a thief may still break your car’s window out to take them.  Stereo face plates, radar detectors, cell phone chargers, garage door openers and GPS units should be removed from the car.  Lock the car up and activate the alarm system if your car has one.  Finally, report any suspicious activity to police right away.

SIGN UP FOR E-MAIL ALERTS

The HOA often receives e-mail bulletins from the Flower Mound Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies to alert the community about criminal activity in our area. We would like to be able to broadcast these alerts along with other time sensitive news to all homeowners by assembling an e-mail distribution list for Shadow Ridge South.  The HOA will not publish this list and the e-mail messages will use a BCC option so that recipients will not be able to view other homeowners’ e-mail addresses.  If you wish to be added to this list please send a message to the HOA Manager at SRSHOAMANAGER@verizon.net with “HOA Alert List” in the subject line.  We will continue to publish and distribute this newsletter to homeowners every two months with announcements and neighborhood news since we know there are homeowners that prefer not to use e-mail to receive it.

THE HOA, TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

When the subdivision plat for Shadow Ridge South was approved for development by the Town of Flower Mound in 1994 the Town required the developer to establish a mandatory homeowners association “to improve, beautify, maintain, manage, and operate the common properties and common facilities” of Shadow Ridge South and “to provide for architectural control of the lots within the subdivision; and to promote the recreation, health, safety, convenience and welfare of the members of the association.”  Every land owner of Shadow Ridge South is required to be a member of the homeowners association.  The HOA dedicates a lot of time and effort into fulfilling these duties and we are proud of the quality of our neighborhood.

The reality is that our homes are our biggest investment and our security.  The HOA is here to make sure that all homeowners’ real estate investments are secured by the preservation and maintenance of Shadow Ridge South.  The majority of our activity is maintaining the Common Areas, which includes the contract for a landscape company to perform the work and the cost of water to keep the landscaping alive and appealing.  We are also required to enforce our architectural standards to maintain the consistency of the homes and yards of our subdivision.  We are proud of the quality of Shadow Ridge South and will continue to work hard to preserve it.  We wish to thank all of you for the great job you have done in maintaining your homes and yards to make our subdivision a desirable place to live.
